General Principles for Book Reviews
Book Reviews
International Relations publishes book reviews and literature reviews.
A. Single Book Reviews
International Relations journal publishes book reviews of 900-1200 words that evaluate academic books published in the last 2-3 years. Book reviews exceeding 1200 words will be returned to its authors without evaluation. The review first should convey the subject, purpose, and scope of the reviewed book to the reader and then critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the book. The main of the review section is not to advertise new publications, but to critically evaluate and introduce them to the readers.
The version of the book reviewed should be based on the language in which it was first published. If the book has also been translated into Turkish, this information should be shared with the reader.
International Relations does not publish reviews of books published only in Turkish. If a book, whose first edition was published in Turkish, is published in other languages, then its version in those languages could be reviewed.
Potential authors are advised to seek advice from the journal's Book Review Editor, Senem Atvur ([email protected]), about the book they intend to review before starting work. Pre-approval by the Book Review Editor of the book for review does not mean that the final product will be published. The final decision-making body for the publication of all manuscripts is the Editorial Board of the Journal.
B. Multiple Book Reviews
The Journal of International Relations also publishes Book Reviews, covering more than one book, and Literature Reviews Authors who want to prepare such reviews can evaluate more than one book on the same topic in a 3000 to 5000-word paper. Apart from critical evaluation of each book, they should also be compared to each other. The reviewer should aim to review each book in 300-500 words, and then compare them as well as critically evaluate the topic they are engaging.
Authors who wish to do multiple book reviews are strongly recommended to start their projects after consulting the Book Review Editor, Senem Atvur ([email protected]). The Book Review Editor's pre-approval of the books for review does not mean that the book/literature review will be published. The final decision-making body for the publication of all manuscripts is the Editorial Board of the Journal.
