Medical Diplomacy of Cuba: Silent and Efficient
Abstract
Diplomacy for a nation state, has been the main instrument to maintain international relations while pursuing national interests. Diplomacy has been transformed due to radical changes in international system, and today different forms of diplomacy initiatives, such as international medical projects can be seen underway. Beside foreign service officers, many other functionaries of a nation state undertake the role of a diplomat as well. Since the beginning of 20th century, medical staff have been the key actors in pursuing medical diplomacy. In this paper, Cuba’s way of medical diplomacy, the evolution of this approach and pros and cons are discussed within an historical perspective.
