Abstract

Ertan Erol's book, Far from God, Close to the Center: Historical Sociology of Peripheral Capitalism in Mexico and Turkey, accomplishes this difficult task by blending a superior academic accumulation with a fluent language. In the author's own words, the book "tries to reveal the unique socioeconomic conditions of the process from Mexico and Turkey's integration into capitalism as two social spaces located on the periphery of the international division of labor, to their sub-imperialist positions they are located in today" (p. 1).
